Since the age of 5 when she first sat down at the piano, Taryn knew she was going to be a musician. Her parents both being active musicians, she was raised with it surging through her veins. Her mom started teaching her the piano in Kindergarten, and in fourth grade she began studying cello, rapidly following that with lessons on the French Horn. After a career of playing and singing in as many groups as she could in secondary school, she followed her dream of becoming a music teacher by enrolling in Syracuse University.

After she graduated in May of 1996, she took a job teaching elementary general and vocal music at two local schools outside of Syracuse. Shortly after that academic year, she moved to Seattle, which is where she has really found her passion for playing. While teaching at Washington Middle School full time, she managed to play gigs with many local groups, usually singing harmonies, playing cello, and eventually picking up the electric bass.

She has performed with groups such as Swan Vestas, Goin' South, Graig Markel, the Kronos Quartet and is currently working on a project with the band The Figure of Eight. She has performed at the Crocodile, the Elysian, the Baltic Room, On the Boards, Town Hall, the Taste of Seattle, and the Graceland. Her influences have primarily been downbeat electronic projects like Massive Attack and Portishead, as well as the world/electronic fusion apparent in groups like the Gotan Project. She is certainly seeing a mutation in her tastes as she rolls into her 30's.
